Refresher Training June 7th 2010 NHS Institute The next refresher training session for Scenario Generator users will be held at the NHS Institute, Warwick University on June 7th. These sessions are free for Scenario Generator users on annual maintenance. For more details and booking contact admin@scenario-generator.com The Scenario Generator Network License Scenario Generator enables health care managers to design new efficient ways of running processes so it’s really important it is available to as many people in your organisation as possible. The Network License Edition makes this really cost effective. The Scenario Generator Network License works in the same way as most software network licenses. Everyone in your organisation can have access to The Scenario Generator via their PC but the maximum number of people who can use it simultaneously is automatically limited by the software itself to the number of network licenses you have purchased. When a user attempts to open the software at a time when all licenses are in use they see a message explaining that all the licenses are busy and they will need to wait until one becomes available. As Scenario Generator is an application used for specific analysis, it is not used all day every day and so it makes sense to share licenses across time. So with, for example, 5 licenses on a network it is likely that 25 or more people could be very significant users of the tool and hardly ever see occasions when they need to wait to obtain a license. What if I need to work away from the network (for example on a laptop in a remote office without network access)? The Scenario Generator Network License has a “check out” facility. Simply open the software while the laptop is connected to the network and use the “Work away from Network” menu. Close the software and that license is allocated to you and on your laptop until you return to the network and select the option to re-share that license. Pricing The cost of one Scenario Generator Network License is 1.2 x the normal license price (so 1.2 x £17,800 = £21,360). The minimum number of licenses to set up a network license is currently just one (although with our other products this is 5 and we reserve the right to increase the minimum after the initial roll out of Scenario Generator). If your organisation already owns Scenario Generator licenses these can be added to the network license for the cost of 0.2 x the normal price x the number of licenses to add. This option is not available until you have purchased at least one network license unit at the 1.2 price. Technical information for IT personnel: The Scenario Generator Network License hardware/software requirements are exactly the same as those for the normal stand-alone desktop license (LINK) except that the client PC needs (at installation time and to obtain an initial license) network access to a shared file server that already exists within your organisation and to which end users have read/write access. The shared file space requirement is less than 1K and no software needs to be installed on the server. Bandwidth usage is only a few bytes of traffic as the software starts up and shuts down. NEW SIMUL8 Healthcare Associates Programme SIMUL8 Corporation Healthcare Associates Programme SIMUL8 and the NHS Institute have been working together to promote and support the use of simulation and modelling in NHS England, using the jointly produced simulation tool – Scenario Generator. One of the major themes to emerge from this work is the lack of capacity and capability in the health service to undertake modelling and simulation. The World Class Commissioning competences require PCTs to develop their skills in this area, and SIMUL8 Corp, in addition to the support it already gives to users of Scenario Generator in the NHS, would like to offer an opportunity to further develop capability and capacity in the health service through an associate programme The Offer SIMUL8 Corp is offering part-time secondments to NHS staff who have successfully completed a simulation and modelling project in the NHS, to become SIMUL8 associates for up to 12 months, working with the company on healthcare related modelling projects as a means of further developing their skills in healthcare simulation. Associates will be part of an expert simulation and modelling team of SIMUL8 operational researchers who will provide support and guidance on projects. They will be provided with both Scenario Generator and SIMUL8 software and training to use these products in the health service. The work will include: • Modelling support for healthcare projects • Training for groups and individuals on using simulation in the health service Secondments will be flexible to fit both the circumstances of the individual and the projects. SIMUL8 will fund salaries at the employee’s current level and will meet all additional travel costs. Applications Interested individuals should send their CV and a written statement outlining a simulation and modelling project they have completed in the NHS to claire.c@simul8.com For informal discussion about this opportunity, please phone 0141 5526888 New options to help existing Scenario Generator Users with projects: Annual Maintenance: £3,600 (Note: for PCT users with the licenses funded by NHS Institute, your license is already covered by maintenance for the first 12 months, however you can make payments at any time to extend your maintenance beyond that date to ensure support and upgrades continue automatically at today’s prices). Decision Making Modelling Package £9,800. This is a work package delivered by SIMUL8 Corporation’s experienced simulation consultants and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement’s simulation and modelling lead. This is designed to help a senior management team get an answer to an analytical question suited to Scenario Generator. While not all questions fit a fixed block of time, our experience shows us that typical single PCT one-off capacity planning decisions can be tackled in this twelve day block of time (including appropriate data gathering, issue structuring workshop, simulation pathway building, and final management decision workshop and report). If you might need our help with a project call to discuss or book one of these packages for use at any time in the next year. Training for additional users: (Note: PCT users of the NHS Institute funded licenses claimed before March 31 2009, are entitled to free in-house training class as part of the funded support, training and initial workshop package – if you have not claimed this, please book it as soon as possible – email admin@scenario-generator.com) Public training classes: £495 per new user at a number of locations around England In-house training at your PCT (or other organisation) for new users of Scenario Generator: £995 for up to 3 users. To purchase any of the above please call the Scenario Generator team at SIMUL8 Corporation on +44 (0)141 5526888 March 2009 – Scenario Generator User Workshop Papers from the workshop on March 30 can be found on the User Forum November 2008 – Scenario Generator User Workshop This is a chance to meet the developers of Scenario Generator and network with other users. The workshop takes place 26 November 2008 at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement in Warwick. October 2008 – Commercial Launch of Scenario Generator Following more than a year of field testing, Scenario Generator, is now fully available. The NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement have available a number of pre-paid licences, sufficient for each SHA and PCT in England to have one copy of the tool at no cost. September 2008 – SIMUL8 Corporation awarded Commercial Contract After jointly collaborating for over two years on the development of Scenario Generator, the NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement has awarded SIMUL8 Corporation, the leading UK based provider of simulation solutions and technology, the contract to take it to market. April 2008 – Scenario Generator at the International Health & Social Care Modelling Conference We are pleased to be presenting at this year’s International Health & Social Care Modelling Conference, taking place 18-20 March 2008 in Portrush, Northern Ireland. September 2007 – Map of Medicine Training Meeting for Early Adopters and Medical Directors We will be presenting at the Map of Medicine Training Meeting for Early Adopters and Medical Directors, taking place 5 September 2007 in London. As well as presenting on the integration with Scenario Generator you can come along and meet us for a demo.
