Social Care Pathways
Scenario Generator now includes social care pathways, prepopulated
with social care prevalence data from POPPI and PANSI,
and health and social care costs data taken from PSSRU Health and
Social Care Costs.
The new features allows you to simulate:
Seasonal Demand Variation
New features have been added to help you see the impact of demand variation on your care pathways.
In the images below, urgent care rates have been changed for the winter period. The results show a peak in admissions activity over this period:

Users now have the option to specify the number of snapshots taken during the run, depending on the results they are interested in, for instance daily, weekly or monthly.
Combined with being able to set the start date of the scenario, this helps users to see clearly the effect demand variation has on activity and capacity in each step.
Realistic Waiting Times Behaviour
Now you can simulate what happens when patients or service users have waited too long for a service. You can set an alternative pathway from a wait step once the maximum wait time has passed.
For example, if someone does not get the intervention they need in time because there is not sufficient capacity to meet demand, they may deteriorate and need another type of intervention.
As the figure to the right shows, 135 people required an alternative intervention because there was not sufficient capacity in the initial service to see them within the maximum waiting time period.
Improved Resource Capacity Planning
You can now simulate the number of days and how many hours a resource will work. This feature is particularly useful in modelling bed management, especially day case beds that only operate during specific hours.
A distribution around FTE activity per week has also been added, this allows you to include variability of a resources performance. Finally the step results now include a histogram that will help users in understanding how to plan capacity for that step.
Scenario Generator users with Annual Maintenance will receive all of these brand new features automatically.
If you don’t have Annual Maintenance and your organisation could benefit from the addition of Social Care pathways to your existing Scenario Generator, speak to your account manager or contact us.
